Boxies at the Wereldmuseum
In Amsterdam and Leiden, families search for art.
With a set of cards and a Boxie around their neck, families set out in search of artworks. Found one? Scan the listening or activity prompt!
At the Wereldmuseum, families explore the exhibition with a set of cards, each featuring an image of a remarkable object on display.
Each object comes with a story and a task to complete together. That’s why each card contains two NFC chips.
Once they have found an artwork, they scan the listening or activity prompt on the corresponding card using the Boxie.
Tested concept
The Wereldmuseum designed this treasure hunt themselves and extensively tested several ideas with their target audience.
The concept featuring the cards and a shared audio device to listen to together emerged as the clear winner.
In search of a device
They then started looking for a partner to develop the device—and we were more than happy to take on that role.
We had already brainstormed several times about creating a ‘soundbox‘-style device for museums. Being able to develop it together with a museum partner felt like a dream come true.

Distributing visitors
An important goal was to encourage families to explore the regular exhibition without needing to modify it. This also helped spread visitors more evenly during busy periods.
