Boxies in the herb garden

Will you become a Hungry Bumblebee or a Wise Wild Bee? Families and school classes go on a mission as superhero insects, searching the herb garden for five herbs that make their insect happy.

Butterflies, for example, have an excellent sense of smell and look for fragrant plants. Honeybees prefer plants in certain colours, because they can see UV light. And bumblebees have long, rolled tongues that let them taste every last drop deep inside a flower… yum!

While searching for your five herbs, you naturally pollinate all the other plants in the garden. And that’s exactly the point!

How does it work?

• At the museum desk, you receive a Boxie and a small whiteboard. It shows your super-insect and your mission.

• With your Boxie, you scan the signs next to the plants in the garden. Each sign contains an NFC chip that triggers audio.

• Your Boxie tells you everything about the plant in 30 seconds. Listen carefully! That’s how you’ll find out whether this plant fits your mission

• Is it a match? Then write the plant’s name on your whiteboard.

• Found five plants? Off you go, back to the desk!

• Everything correct? Then choose your own seeds so you can grow herbs at home too!

From concept to plant markers

Go Wonder developed the concept for this educational programme in co-creation with the museum. All texts were created collaboratively as well. Of course with the gardener taking a look too.

We also designed and produced all the necessary materials: the mission whiteboards, the plant markers with NFC chips, and of course the Boxies themselves, complete with the museum’s logo.

AI audio

To stay flexible when adding and updating plant content, this project used an artificial voice to present all the information about the plants.
