Tellmies in het Maritiem Museum
Kraken, a talking and interactive octopus, transforms everyone in an experienced tour guide.

The Maritime Museum Rotterdam was looking for a way to present the exciting stories of the exhibition Sea Monsters in an appealing tour for preschoolers. They opted for a Tellmie and together we created Kraak: a talking and interactive cuddly octopus!

De tour met Kraak is voor groep 1, 2 en 3.
Preschoolers, of course, cannot read by themselves. They come to the museum in class with their own accompanying teachers. These are parents or teachers who are not familiar with the museum and therefore need a lot of explanation about the programme. All this makes hosting large groups of preschoolers quite a challenge, because how do you convey all the content in an appealing way?
The education department figured out that Kraken could lend a hand. This talking octopus turns the guides into expert tour guides. The guides manage the group and Kraak tells the right stories and assignments in the right place. An ideal combination!
How does it work?
The group is divided into six small groups, each with its own companion. This companion gets his own Kraken on his arm. The companions start up Kraken by squeezing his leg. They then follow a route through the expo.
Kraak tells a story with each monster and has an assignment for the children. To answer, they squeeze his arm with red or blue hair.
Kraak uses beacons to determine where it is and therefore what story to tell at. These beacons are embedded in a special floor mat so that they have optimal reach for the hardware in the octopus.
